Well today is March first, can you believe it? Spring is just around the corner right!? Well, you know the old saying, "March comes roaring in like a lion and goes out like a lamb." The last couple of days here in Oregon have been lion days. So, what better way to kick off March than with a guest post from Beth Ann Masarik, author of The World Among Us. A book that weaves Greek mythology into present day. This book is packed with many mythological characters. The main attraction is: Hades, Lord of the Underworld, he is plotting to take over the world. To share with us a little bit more on this Ruling God of Hell I have on the blog today, Beth and Hades, along with a few zombie spiders.
Hades and zombie-spiders…OH MY!
Well, this is it folks! The last three days of my tour. I’d seriously like to thank you all for sticking with me for the entire month of February, and into March! Speaking of, I can’t believe that it’s March already! It’s madness I tell you! Anyway, I am here to share the last Character Chat of the tour. *sniff sniff*. It’s sad I know, but I promise you, this one will be fun. I’ve saved the best for last. Do you want to know who this Character Chat is with?
*drum roll please*
HADES!
Awe, come on! You guys knew this was coming LOL. This chat was inspired by a nightmare-ish of a night that happened to me at the beginning of the month, and I thought I would write a little bit of a parody of it. Now, before I bore you to death (HAH!), let’s get on with the Character Chat or else Hades might sick a zombie spider on me. And that’s NOT just a bunch of Hocus Pocus!
I had been watching Disney’s, Hocus Pocus, when I started to get sleepy. It had been ages since I’d seen that movie, and forgot that one of my biggest fears was in it…ZOMBIES. Granted, it was only one zombie, and it was the Disney, messed up version, but still, the moment the word zombie was mentioned in the movie, I started to freak out. I don’t know what it is about zombies that scares me so much, but, well, they just flat out terrify me. However, because I’m enjoying the movie, I stayed in bed, and tried to ignore the fact that there was a zombie in the movie. Hey, Billie was a pretty cool zombie. In fact, he was probably the only zombie I know of that didn’t try to eat people’s brains.
I thought about all of this while I got ready for bed. Thoughts of zombies still clouded my brain, but they soon escaped my thoughts once I was about ready to pass out from exhaustion. I was about ready to turn out my light, when I looked over and noticed a gigantic spider crawling on the edge of my garbage can. *shudders*. It was HUGE! Needless to say, I began to freak out and panic again.
I immediately jumped out of bed and leapt to the other side of my room. That was when I heard the sound of flames roaring in, and soon enough, Hades was standing in my bedroom. I looked at him, and barely acknowledged his presence; I was too fixated on the evil spider in the room.
Hades stood there and watched me freak out and panic. He stood well over six feet tall, with short, brown hair, and his eyes changed color every five seconds. He wore a gold crown with jewels on his head, and a long, black cape flowed behind him as he walked over toward the spider. A pseudo feeling of relief washed over me as I hoped that he would be my savior and squash the insect that inconspicuously threatened me. To my dismay, however, he picked up the spider in his hand, and placed it on the floor. I squealed, and jumped up on my dresser.
“What are you doing, Hades?” I shrieked. “Just kill it, p—please?” I begged. Hades looked at me and grinned wickedly. He had a look in his eyes that said he was up to no good. Of course he wouldn’t be…this was Hades for goddess’s sakes. “It’s only a spider,” he said in his drawl of a voice. “It won’t hurt you. Now, if I turn it into a zombie spider,” he trailed off and snapped his fingers.
I watched in horror as the spider grew triple in size, and an awful stench radiated from it. The spider began to foam at the mouth and I screamed for help. Unfortunately, it was only me, Hades, and the zombie spider. I ran from my room to find the Raid and a really big
shoe. As I ran to the kitchen, I heard Hades laughing evilly in the background. “Don’t you know Raid doesn’t work on the Undead?” He asked as he sat back and watched the zombie-spider approach me. I had to think fast…I wasn’t going to let a figment of my imagination control me. I climbed onto the countertop in my kitchen and thought fast. Out of the corner of my eye, I spotted the matches and fire extinguisher. I picked up the extinguisher, and unleashed its foamy power on the zombie-spider. While it didn’t kill it, the foam temporarily blinded the monster, which gave me the time I needed. “NO!” I heard Hades shout as I grabbed a sharp cutting knife from the knife holder on the counter, and aimed it at the zombie-spiders’ head. Once I was certain I had the right spot, I tossed the knife, and finally killed the zombie-spider.
“Would you like to be next, Hades?” I threatened. “I don’t take kindly to insects and vermin in my home.” He looked at me like I had just broken his favorite toy. “I didn’t think you were that clever, Ms. Masarik,” He sneered angrily. “I suppose I should have known, though.” Hades shook his head and headed for the door. “As much fun as this has been, my job here is done. Congratulations,” he said sarcastically. “You’ve passed my test,” he added sarcastically.
With a snap of his fingers, Hades left the building.
Well, there you have it folks! Now you know just how evil Hades can be, and to his own creator mind you! *shakes head* What am I going to do with him?

Oh no! Mean, evil Hades! *shudder* now, that zombie spider will reign terror in my nightmares as well (so glad I didn't read this post before going to bed last night!). I mean, I knew Hades was evil, but... oh my!
Great post, Beth! Good luck with the rest of the tour! :)

Oooooo I love all things Greek mythology! Except for zombie spiders. Hades can stop creating those any time he feels like it. I fear spiders. *shudders* And how great of a movie is Hocus Pocus! LOVE that one:) Such a fun guest post, thank you Heidi and Beth (and Hades)!

I can hardly believe it's already March too! It feels like only yesterday that 2012 just started, especially with how many amazing books that have come out -- and this sounds like one hilarious book to add to the bunch! I LOVE Greek mythology, and this character chat was so much fun! Having Hades in your house would be both terrifying and exciting, I think! x)
Amazing post, Beth! This honestly just put the biggest smile on my face -- although I think I'd scream at the sight of zombie-spider too LOL! Adding them together is equal parts creative and scare-worthy! ;)

Zombies scare me too! I can read about them, but I can't watch them in movies.
Now spiders... hmm... yeah, I'm scared of them too but if Hades came in the room I think I might just run screaming.
I can't believe it's March either! And it actually snowed today! Well, it snowed overnight and it's all melted now. But WE GOT SNOW!!!
