It is Tuesday and time again for another thought provoking question from Cambria. Head over to her blog if you want to link up and check out next week's question while you are there.
This week's query:
Ha! TV watching for me these days usually centers around what my
kids want to watch and since they are 1 and 3 that means, Dora the Explorer, Sesame Street and my personal favorite Umizoomi. I know you are all so jealous and wish you could spend more time watching these shows. You know what amazes
me? Some of the people on Sesame Street have been on the show for over thirty years, so I am hanging out again with people like Maria, Luis, Gordon, Susan and Bob.
Ok so what do I watch? Well again, I get very little time to watch what I want to watch. My husband always seems to pick what we watch since I am always distracted with the kids and such, anyway. However, we do have a few shows that we like.
First, my must watch show is Mad Men on AMC. I didn't jump on the bandwagon until 2010. We rented all the seasons on Netflix and devoured them. It is a great, dramatic series set in the 1960's and centers around the advertising business. It is entertaining to say the least with plenty of drama. I also like seeing how the world was when my parents were growing up, the fashions, the products, the movies and tv shows and cultural norms. For instance it was perfectly acceptable to smoke and drink at work. Yes, they are always drinking and getting drunk while working. If you haven't seen it check it out. Unfortunately, it runs sporadically and there are only a dozen episodes or so a season and this season, which started at the end of March, is about over!
Next, I adore the Simpsons and still watch them after 20 years. The show is hilarious and makes some fun statements on pop culture. How many main stream tv shows can boast a 20 yr. run? Homer, Marge, Lisa, Bart and Maggie still make me laugh after all these years!
I also enjoy watching Donald Trump's Celebrity Apprentice, which just wrapped. I personally am not a fan of Donald but I love the show. It is great watching celebrities battle to win weekly tasks and all the drama that ensues! Of course, it is always great to see who gets fired every week.
Two other shows that I enjoy are Once Upon a Time and Grimm. I
especially like watching Grimm because it is filmed right here in Portland, Oregon. It is fun to see familiar locations on the show. Not to mention the paranormal elements. My favorite character is the wolf guy...I can't remember his name right off but he is lots of fun. I am woefully behind on Once Upon a Time and I have endeavored to catch up before next fall. I love all the fairy retellings and the Wicked Queen is just pure evil!
Finally, I know you all will think I am crazy but one of my absolute favorite shows is Deadliest Catch on the Discovery Channel. I couldn't even tell you why I am so addicted to that show but I love the action and the drama and it is all real life, no fake reality tv here. You watch the crab fishermen battle the sea and risk their lives for the crab. Seriously, people get hurt and there are some gripping scenes, Coast Guard rescues and everything. I love this show! It is always on during the summer when there is nothing else to watch! I was so sad when Captain Phil died. My favorite boat is the Time Bandit! Those boys are wild and crazy and Captain Andy is my favorite captain.
So there you have my wild and wacky picks. I am sure most of you are scratching your heads thinking, really? Yep, this is what we watch when we aren't watching basketball and football and yes, I really do enjoy basketball and football! So tell me what you watch...
