1. Chapter 13 opens with Merit describing her new job routine as House Sentinel. Considering that every job Cadogan House is important in helping to make the house run efficiently, which job do you think you'd like to have (guard, cook, social director, gardener, etc.) and why?
I think being a guard would be interesting to say the least. For one thing, I would always be in the know, meaning I would be aware of everything that was going on inside and outside the house. All the potential threats, and let's face it, all the juicy gossip and inside information that comes with the territory. As entertaining as all that might be, I have to admit it would be easier to not know all the drama and the dangers. How would I sleep at night? Not to mention, I would have to carry a pager (electronic leash) on me at all times. No thanks. So, I would say I pick gardener. I could enjoy being outside...drat I just realized, I wouldn't be out soaking up sunshine. Well, I would enjoy the night air. I could make a nice quiet, little niche for myself, a place with flowers and a bubbling pond, a nice quiet nook to steal away and read a book. Besides, in the winter when the garden is buried under feet of snow, I can lounge around inside and read by the fire, you can't garden in the snow, right?
2. In the supernatural world of Chicagoland Vampires, politics seem to play an important role in the way the Houses are run. Now that you've been introduced to the Rogues, do you think it's better for vampires to be a part of a House or to live outside of one?
I can't say, I don't have enough information on the rogues from the one scene. I would surmise that as a new, fledgling vampire it would likely be much easier to exist within the house, while I learned the ropes. However, I don't know how well I would conform to all the rules and regulations. In that regard, living as a rogue might be a good option. Until I have a better idea of the rogue lifestyle, I am on the fence.
3. After Morgan openly asks to court Merit, she feels betrayed when Ethan commands her to accept for the show of alliance it could bring to Cadogan House. Do you think her reaction was warranted?
Absolutely, her reaction is warranted. I don't approve of Merit being used as a pawn to negotiate better relationships between the houses. I would certainly hate to be forced into a relationship. Knowing Merit, she will find a way to wiggle out of it. I was confused over her feeling betrayed by Ethan, she openly rejected him, but secretly she wants him to want her. Make up your mind, Merit. Do you want him or not?
4. When Ethan meets with the perpetrator of the murders, were you surprised to discover who it was? If you suspected someone, were your suspensions correct? What did you think of the perpetrator's motive?
Not at all, I conjectured early on that the person who was committing murders was someone who was plotting to seize power by pitting the houses against each other. From the beginning the perpetrator was painted in a not so flattering light and I had my suspicions. As far as motive, again I am not surprised, this person obviously wants power and prestige, in this case for a personal vendetta.
5. What was your favorite/least favorite parts of Some Girls Bite?
Favorite parts of the series was getting to know Merit and the other characters. Merit's quick wit and snappy lines made this an enjoyable read. I loved the eating parts, all the rich, decadent foods presented! Yum!
What I didn't like was the book languished a bit toward the end, when the action and mystery slowed. It felt like the murder mystery took a back seat. I would have liked it to be more in the spotlight. I enjoyed getting to know all the characters, but a great deal of this novel felt like a series establishment. I wanted more excitement and action.
6. What do you think is coming up next for Merit, Sentinel of Cadogan House? Will you continue reading this series, and if so, what do you hope to see happen in the next book?
I think in future installments, Merit's loyalty and resolve toward Ethan and the Cadogan house will continue to be tested. The groundwork for a potential war between vampires and humans has been laid out. I think Merit will find herself working to stave off a conflict. Merit will also have to work through her feelings for Ethan and decide one way or another, to fall for him, or reject him. Yes, I will continue this series, I hear it continues to excel. I want to continue to see Merit grow and make a name for herself. I want to learn about Mallory's powers, find out about Catcher's past, definitely learn more about Jeff, and lots more on Grandpa.
This completes my Tuesday read along. I had so much fun participating in this event. I met some fantastic bloggers along the way! I hope I will again participate in another read along with these gals! You were all so much fun. Right now I am planning on doing the read along in March for Hounded by Kevin Hearne, starting in March. I hope some of you will consider joining. Check out the details on Missy's blog.
